Paulo Amendoeira
Paulo Amendoeira is a Portuguese percussionist, performer, and improviser based in Bern, with an education in classical contemporary percussion. His practice blends different aspects and areas of creation, with sound exploration, creative and innovative ways of making music always in mind.
His most recent projects include |klang.data|, side proYect and ruído blanco, being also a member of Concrète [Lab] Ensemble and Cigarra Associação Cultural. In the midst of all these aesthetics and roles, he can research on using electronic means and objects to expand the sound and expression spectrum of his array of percussion instruments, curate and organize events either as a musician or a producer, and collectively and interdisciplinarly create.
The ongoing and close collaborations with composers such as João Quinteiro, Eva Aguilar, Carlos Lopes, Michael Maierhof, Ilona Perger and Jorge Villoslada Durán, gives him various creative skills, all resulting on a will to be perceived as a composer/performer, rather than only one of those.
Among other projects and collaboration with ensembles, Paulo was a member of the Ulysses Percussion Ensemble 2022, epoche f (with members of Ensemble Modern), GMEA Experiences (Daedalus Ensemble) and played with Les Percussions de Strasbourg.
Graduated from the Lisbon School of Music with Pedro Carneiro in 2023, Paulo is currently a MA Performance student at the Hochschule der Künste Bern with Brian Archinal as his main teacher, also taking lessons with Antoine Françoise, Marc Unternährer, Biliana Voutchkova and Cansu Tanrıkulu.
