Maria Dybbroe
Maria Dybbroe is a Danish saxophonist, improviser and composer living in Copenhagen and Oslo. She is part of the improvisers collective 'The Community', the label 'Barefoot Records', and organize festivals and concerts with Sun Ship in Aarhus, Denmark. In recent years Maria has been a very active and attracted player on the Danish scene for experimental jazz and improvised music. She is especially know for her very distinct way of composing and her poetic, melodic and expressive playing, as well as her personal soft and clear sound. She is the composer and leading force in Caktus, with whom she released the debut-album 'Under Solen' in 2020, for which she is nominated as 'Composer of the Year' at the Danish Critics Prize 'Steppeulven'. Maria also plays solo concerts, is part of the impro trio Køs (who released the album 'An Uncaught Bird' in 2020), the sax-trio Coriolis, the sax-quintet Sidechains, Copenhagen Clarinet Choir, Jacob Anderskovs 'Spirit of the hive' and the duo Orsa. Besides these groups she is often invited as a soloist in various ensembles and have cooperated with artists such as poet Pia Tafdrup, saxophonist Laura Toxværd, Kasper Staub, Lars Greve, Lotte Anker, P.O. Jørgens, T.S. Høeg mfl.
