Grgur Savic

Berlin - Germany

Grgur Savic (Zagreb, Croatia) is a Croatian-German experimental composer, soundist and improviser based in Berlin since 2015. His work include different mixed sound experiments and visual media outputs. Predominantly experimental, intuitive and non-linear, creating through numerous different mediums and technologies such as graphic scoring, feedback in electronics, field recordings and live performance – working largely in different electro-acoustic environments. Grgur knows how to mediate between interactive and discipline. He uses an array of different types of wind, string and electronic instruments (saxophone, clarinet, objects, pipes, no-input mixing board...). After residing in Berlin, through extensive creative research, critical open experimentation, and innovative transdiciplinary collaborations from more lately he explores the combination of amplified acoustic instruments and objects with main interest to closely blend or to recreate the sounds from different types of human made machines, surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal or plant lives or operates.

Grgur graduated music academic studies – classical Saxophone at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria (class of Peter Straub and Gerald Preinfalk) and studied saxophone improvisation at “KONSE” Kärntner State Conservatory of Music and Theatre in Klagenfurt (class of Michael Erian). Currently at the Institute for Creative Arts and Technology - Catalyst Berlin [Funkhaus], he is completing a research project on experimental sound and contemporary graphic compositions.

He mainly performs and collaborates with other artists, mostly musicians and new media creatives with a contemporary approach such as Sanja Star, Rieko Okuda, Richard Scott, Daniel Craig, Ute Wassermann, Samuel Hall, Emilio Gordoa, Ignaz Schick to name a few. Since he moved to Berlin he actively performs and records his main projects:  PITCH SHIFTING, ENSEMBLE THE F:ORM, VORTEX, SPACE TIGERS BERLIN. Notable past collaborations include Free Willys – conceptual free music trio, The Unleashed Bop Force – post bop fusion quintet, Mangroove – experimental fusion band. In between composing, recording and playing shows, Grgur is practicing music production, filming and video editing which are involved in major of his music videos. His music is available through the physical and digital releases.
