Nana Pi Aabo-Kim

Nana Pi Aabo-Kim is a Copenhagen-based saxophone player, composer and conductor working mainly within the experimental jazz scene. She has developed her own unique vocabulary on the saxophone using objects and extended techniques. In addition to playing the saxophone, she is known for conducting improvisation with her music sign language Extemporize in her large ensemble Extemporize Orchestra and doing workshops, for which she received the P8 Jazz Award “Årets Ildsjæl” in 2020.

She is part of the record label Barefoot Records where she has released several albums. Her latest release with Tactical Maybe (Barefoot Records, 2022) has been well received and got reviews like "...If anyone wonders what exciting free jazz in 2022 is, then just open your ears and your other senses to Tactical Maybe - they have definitely served something that could be the answer to that very question... " - Tor Hammerø. She was also nominated for "DMA JAZZ" 2021 in the main category "Jazz Release of the Year" for her release “Sentiment" (Barefoot Records, 2021) with her group Nezelhorns.

Besides playing music, she is part of The Community and organizes events like IMPRO CAMP, PRiMi and FredagsJAM.
