Yeji Kim
Yeji Kim is a haegeum performer, improviser and composer based in Seoul. She explores the boundaries between noise and music and expresses delicate emotions and sensations through her performances that utilize various phases, textures, and durations of sound. Her works mainly explore the potential of the haegeum, the only Korean traditional musical instrument that contains all eight materials that make up the instruments—metal, stone, silk thread, bamboo, gourd, clay, leather, and wood—by deconstructing the instrument into its individual parts and components, each with its own characteristics and textures, and transforming them into sound.
Recently, she has been interested in conveying contemporary messages through interaction and audience experience and continues to work without genre boundaries through collaborations with electronic music, dance, text, and installation art.
