Maria do Mar is a Lisbon-based violinist, composer, teacher and activist. She explores alternative ways of teaching, participates in experimental, improvised music and performance projects, programming, curating, and politic activism. 

She has performed with several national and international artists, such as Miguel Mira, Carlos "Zíngaro", Joelle Léandre, Sei Miguel, Ricardo Freitas, Paulo Chagas, Ernesto Rodrigues, Joana Guerra, Maria Radich, Juan Cato Calvi, in festivals such as MIA, Creative Fest Lisbon & Berlim, Jazz no Parque de Serralves, BCN ImproFest, Festival Urogallo at Léon, Festival Underscore, Magassessions, Lisboa Soa, Jazz ao Centro at Coimbra, Jazz 2020 in Gulbenkian Foundation. She has several recordings, and is a member of several music projects such as LANTANA, Duo Suprasónico, MAYUHMA, XENTRA, Fungaguinhos. 

In 2019, her work was recognized with her nomination as 2019 Best Portuguese Musician or Band in Jazz.pt.

Her work explores a wide and varied universe and the development of a personnel language, with tenuous aesthetical boundaries, opening up boundless creative cross-possibilities.
