George Kokkinaris
George Kokkinaris is a contrabassist, composer and music performer based in Berlin and Athens. He has been performing contemporary music and improvisation pieces. He has been working with living composers from Europe (Germany, Greece, UK), USA, Canada trying to expand the repertoire of contrabass in chamber music ensembles. He has an expanding discography and videography with improvised music, compositions and his own composed music together with poetry and dance. George has been producing dance and music performances by collaborating with choreographers and dancers (Julyen Hamilton, Konstantin Mihos, Paolo CIngolani). His last production includes the 50 minutes film “The Coming Pattern” (2021), a film for music, poetry, and dance produced together with Julyen Hamilton. The last two years he has been collaborating with Sylvia Hinz (recorder) by creating the gLOWs duo (sub bass recorder, contrabass). gLOWs is characterized by the unique combination of low registered sounds and unlimited sound possibilities. gLOWs duo’s program includes new compositions specially for the duo (Filippos Raskovic – merely reflect 2022), new adaptations (Aegean Black Sea by Tina Pearson 2022) and new premiere interpretations (Anestis Logothetis – Labyrinthos -1975). George has performed in festival and venues such as Institut Francais d’ Athenes, Klangwerkstatt Berlin 2019,2021, Megaron Mousikis Athens, Herodeion Attikou open theater of Athens’ festival, Piraeus Municipality Theater. George the last 2 years has been studying Anthony Braxton’s music by performing solo or small ensemble his music. The last upcoming project includes solo double bass performances inspired by Scientific Research by young scientists in the field of Genetics and Microbiology.
