Dominik Kreuzer

Graz - Autriche

Dominik is based in Graz, Austria and plays trumpet, trombone, tuba, electric and double bass and occasionally his voice. Always ready to face new challenges, he's been active in a variety of genres over the years. Having cut his teeth in free improvisation in the early 1990ies in Keith Tippett’s Seedbed Orchestra, he continues to pursue his love for this forever unpredictable genre.

He performed and recorded as a member of various formations, such as Dia Rea, Juju Men, Mouches Volantes and the Masala Brass Kollektiv. With the latter, he co-organised the triennial Skappa’nabanda! urban brass festival. He was also assistant director at a music theatre summer camp for children and young people. He is currently a member of the Styrian Improvisers Orchestra, First Row Dancer (trumpet), Trapped In Styles (double bass) and Das Erste und Letzte Grazer Balkonien Zirkus Orkeztra (tuba) as well as participating as a musician in various theatre and interdisciplinary projects. His current focus is on improvisation and electronic music, especially the interplay between brass and electronics.

Dominik runs a music club, the Kulturkotter, which opened its doors in 2021 and focuses on improvised and experimental music and jazz.

Somehow among all this, he manages to also find time for his bread-and-butter work as a translator specialising in music and the arts. Working between German and English, his clients include the composer and trombonist Christian Muthspiel, the improviser Elisabeth Harnik, the Munich Philharmonic and the Gasteig arts centre.
