Improvisor, guitar·s player, composer, Andrea Bazzicalupo has been active in the field of creative music, improvisation and contemporary music since 2005. As a kid, he got music virus when he discovered blues and grunge- after that, a yearn for playing, in the purest and most joyful sense, leads him to explore and get involved in a vast range of musical idioms and territories.

AB has played with a large number of groups and projects across Europe, performing in many clubs, venues, festivals and alternative spaces. With roots in alternative-rock and a wide palette of black-american music– essentially self-taught and always seeking multiple contexts- AB is on an experimental life journey shaping ideas, skills and crafting diverse methods of expression, which feature a distinctive sonic sensibility and a strong physical approach.

AB uses guitar -both acoustic and electric-, in a way which he likes to call “multi-idiomatic”, featuring a merge of peculiar ways of playing with an open-ended palette of extended techniques, gestures, inventions and preparations- thinking the guitar as a generator of sounds. Part of the work is also just focused on rather simple objects which have nevertheless specific sonic characteristics, aiming to create and to express new and interesting sound material- for his ear.  On the other hand, he explores the use of electronics and synthetic/processed sounds.

AB has performed along with Alessia Obino, François Rossé, Michele Anelli, Albert Cirera, Joni Sigil, Jean-Marc Baccarini, Axel Filip, among others.

Besides music, his interests also include literature, poetry, anthropology and, since childhood, nature.
