Hi.O.Bla

Bourges - France

If you want to imagine the sound world of Hi.O.Bla you must first take account of its instruments: bird calls, ping-pong balls, drums, bendir, musical box, darbouka, sink plunger, hubcaps, airpump, gongs, car horns, cake tins, ophicleide, toy piano, sheets of metal, alarm clocks, riq, trombone, trombone made of PVC, hose pipe, sanza, whistles, siren, vibraphone, voice; as well as a variety of different implements taken from Do it Yourself, cooking or childcare.

The result is an unclassifiable music, sustained with multiple influences – jazz, improvised music, musical drama, Balkan rhythms, medieval music or Balinese Gamelan.

Added to all this, a Dadaist spirit enlivens the concerts of Hi.O.Bla : we are in contact with humour and unpredictability, the pleasure of improvisation shared with the audience.
Hi.O.Bla are delighted to join forces with dance, circus, theatre or video performances thus inventing new productions.

Michel Barbier : trombone, ophicléide, objets
