Gabriele Bertossi

I am an electric bass player who has focused his artistic career on performance, composition, and improvisation.

My career as a performer has seen me playing in different musical situation: from jazz trio, to big bands, from playing in theatre to playing in ensembles of free and non-idiomatic improvisation.

Regarding composition and improvisation, I am focused on finding how to integrate them in my artistic practice as if they were one thing, discovering where these two fascinating aspects of music blend together, and trying to use them as complementary tools of music-making.

This relationship, sometimes controversial, between improvisation and composition, is studied to find a balance between artistic/interpretive freedom and the figure of the composer as a storyteller.
